This study was conducted to determine whether a low level of exposure to purified aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), 70 ppb, of broiler chicks could induce detectable histopathological changes in liver and lymphoid organs (bursa of Fabricius, spleen and thymus gland) and the effect of 2.5 ppm of selenium supplementation on tissue integrity. Three groups of 60 male broiler Hubbard x Hubbard chicks, 1-day-old, were subjected to the following treatments: T1, control group (aflatoxin free feed); T2, 70 ppb AFB1 exposed group; and T3, 70 ppb AFB1+2.5 ppm sodium selenite group. The highest degree of tissue damage was in the liver and bursa of Fabricius of the birds in the T2 group. There were no tissue damage in the spleen and thymus glands of the birds exposed to 70 ppb AFB1. It was observed that 2.5 ppm sodium selenite reduced the number and severity of lesions of the liver and bursa of Fabricius of the T3 group. Selenium also has a reducing effect on the number and degree of the lesions of the liver and bursa of Fabricius due to its detoxification action..
