A note on the occurrence of Linguatula serrata in dogs

Linguatula serrata parasites occurring in the nasal passage of dog are considered to be usual arthropods causing respiratory distress of animals in many tropical and subtropical countries (Soulsby, 1986). Dogs are the optimum definitive host and infected by oral ingestion of infected food composed of raw liver/lymph node of herbivorous animals. A report on occurrence of pentastomiasis in dogs seems to be unreported in India. The present communication therefore reports the incidence of L. serrata in dogs in Vidharbha region of Maharashtra state.
