AGE AT PUBERTY IN ANGORA AND LOCAL X ANGORA CROSSES

Age at puberty is an economic character directly influencing initiation of reproductive life and subsequent performance. The data from l972 to l988 (1214 goats) of various genetic groups maintained at AICRP on goats was utilised for the present study.The data was classified in different class intervals according to genetic groups. Shelton (1978) concluded that, in Angora goats due to high photoperiodicity, occurrence of seasonal anestrus may delay the exhibition of sexual maturity and they do not show sexual activity until their second year.
