Incidence and chemotherapy of Ascaridia galli infection in chickens.

100 chickens were experimentally infected with 40 larvae of A. galli orally for 4 consecutive days. The bird were divided into 4 groups and treated orally with 7.5 mg/kg of oxfendazole (Systemax), 100 mg/kg of mebendazole (Chanazole), 200 mg/kg of piperazine (Coopane) or left untreated. The drugs were 93, 100 and 96% effective against mature worms and 85, 95 and 73% against immature worms, respectively, and caused 94, 100 and 93% reduction in the number of eggs/g of faeces.
