Comparative studies on milk production traits in Holstein Friesian x Sahiwal crossbred cattle.

The effects of dry period (DP) and body weight at calving (WC) on the heritability of lactation milk yield (LMY), 305-day lactation milk yield (LMY 305), calving interval (CI) and lactation length (LL) of 1/4 Holstein-Friesian (HF) x 3/4 Sahiwal (S), 1/2 HF x 1/2 S, 5/8 HF x 3/8 S and 3/4 HF x 1/4 S crossbred cattle were investigated. The effect of sire, calving season (SC) and calving period were also studied. It was shown that year of calving and sire had significant effects, while SC had non-significant effects on DP, WC, LMY and LMY 305 in all genetic groups. Crossbred cattle with higher levels of inheritance had a significantly higher estimates for the studied production traits.
