Haematological studies on Indian camel (Camelus dromedarius) under hot humid climate of Konkan region.

Haematological studies were performed on 19 adult camels that had been abandoned by their owners in the rainy season (August 1996) when the maximum and minimum temperatures were 31 and 25deg C, respectively, and the relative humidity was 91%. The results are tabulated. The haemoglobin levels were very low (average 6.38 g/dl), as were the leukocyte count (in 15 animals it was below 8X106/mm3), and packed cell volume. The hot humid climate and food deprivation were thought to have been responsible for these low levels.
