Klebsiella pneumoniae Associated Pyometra and Septicemia in a Female Rabbit

A female rabbit carcass was presented at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal with the history of anorexia and pyrexia. On postmortem examination, visceral organs revealed septicemia and uterus contained insipissated pus. Swab from the uterus was collected for bacteriological culture which revealed Gram-negative rods after aerobic incubation. Histopathologically,the uterus exhibited severe necrosis and desqumation of the endometrial epithelium with numerous neutrophils. Morphological and various biochemical tests were suggested that the isolate was Klebsiella pneumoniae.
