Successful Management of Compound Fracture of Unilateral Horn in a HallikarBullock with a Designed Metallic Splint

A Hallikar bullock was presented to Veterinary Hospital, College Of Agriculture, UAS Dharwad, Karnataka State with history of involving in a bull fight. It was diagnosed to be suffering with unilateral compound fracture of left horn at the base. The fracture was reduced and a designed metallic splint was applied to stabilize the fracture site taking the help of healthy horn. The external wound healed by 20 days. The animal showed clinical union by four weeks, but the splint was maintained for 12 weeks to allow the complete bony union. The designed metallic splint could be locally prepared at the blacksmith; is of low cost; light in weight (0.6 kg), easy to apply and allows wound dressing without dismantling.
