Isolation and Identification of Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus from Field Outbreaks of Layers in Namakkal District

Infectious laryngotracheitis (1LT) is an acute and economically important respiratory disease of chickens caused by an alpha-herpes virus of Gallid Herpes virus I as per Ou and Giambrone, (2012). It can also affect pheasants, partridges and peafowl (OlE, 2004). ILT is characterized by conjunctivitis, depression, sneezing, rales, signs of gasping, dyspnoea and death. IL TV is considered to have a worldwide distribution.The recent suspected outbreak of IL T at various poultry farms in Namakkal area prompted the isolation of the virus from the existing cases by confirming IL TV by clinico-pathological signs, isolation and identification of the virus and histopathological means.
