PRODUCTION CAPACITY OF GOATS IN DIFFERENT ECOZONES OF TAMIL NADU

Goats have established a Strong association with the rural poor by virtue of their favourable qualities viz. multiparity, faster multiplicity, higher digestive efficiency, lower investment, higher disease tolerance etc., Their small size provide a significant managerial, biological and economic advantages tb the poor farmers (Devendra and Burns, 1983). Further, goats are found to be more economical than dairy cattle and sheep (Raut and Nadkarni, 1974). Though goats are reported to be found in diversified environments, information on their performance in differing climatic conditions is scanty. This study aims to make an attempt in this direction by examining the production capacity of goats in various agroclimatic zones of Tamil Nady State.
