Nutrient Utilization and Growth Performance of Desi Pigs Fed on Niger SeedCake (GuizotiaAbyssinica)

Substitution of groundnut cake for Niger seed cake (NSC) can be done satisfactorily up to 50% with considerable reduction in cost of feeding. The average digestibility coefficients of DM, CF, EE and OM of the rations T_1, T_2 and T_3 did not differ significantly whereas digestibility coefficients of CP and NFE of rations, T_2 and T_3 were significantly (p<0.Q5) higher than ration T_1. Balances of N, Ca and P were positive in all the three groups. The N, Ca and P balances were significantly higher ingroup T_2 and T_3 as compared to group T_1 (control). In conclusion, replacement of GNC for NSC had beneficial effect on growth and digestibility of all major nutrients, intake of protein and energy, retention of nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus and feedefficiency ratio.
