In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the important biotechnological innovations in the recent past following successful implementation MOET (Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer) which is directly applicable to breeding of farm animals. The success ofIVF depends upon series of biological events like the in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes, in vitro capacitation of spermatozoa, formation of zygotes (fusion) and subsequent development of zygotes in the in vitro culture medium until it attains the transferable form (compact morula to blastocyst) to the surrogate mother or storage in liquid nitrogen for future use. Substantial number of embryos can be produced in the laboratory by this technique. The first report of in vitro fertilization from in vitro matured bovine oocytes was reported by Iritani and Niwa (1977). Attempts were made by several workers to utilize the follicular oocytes collected from abattoir ovaries as source of embryo production. The present study was undertaken to investigate theeffect of different in vitro maturation media on the basis of cumulus expansion and in vitro fertilization of selected mature oocytes.
