Autohaemotherapy for cutaneous papillomatosis in buffaloes.

Five male buffalo calves, 3 female calves and 2 buffalo heifers aged 8 months-3 years in Kalyani, West Bengal, India, were presented for cutaneous papillomatosis/warts [date not given]. Fresh blood from the affected animals were collected from the jugular vein and injected back into the same buffaloes at 5 ml/100 kg body weight. Half the dose was given as a deep 1.m. injection at the glutal region and the other half as s.c. injection in the neck region. Treatments were repeated at weekly intervals for 4-5 weeks until complete regression of the warts. The warts gradually regressed and sloughed. Skin sores healed after application of Himax ointment. The majority of animals were cured after 4 treatments, while 2 cases required 2 more treatments each. These results show the successful treatment of papillomas using autoheamotherapy.
