Egg quality traits of Khaki Campbell, native ducks and their crossbreds.

The egg quality parameters of Khaki Campbell (K), their reciprocal crossbreds with native ducks and native ducks in India were compared. It was shown that egg weight was significantly higher in the reciprocal crossbreds compared to K and native ducks. Albumen index and Haugh unit were also significantly higher in K and crossbreds compared to native ducks. Egg shell thickness was lower in K ducks, while inner egg shell membrane was significantly higher in native ducks compared to the other groups. Albumen, yolk and shell percentages were significantly different between groups. There were positive heterosis effects for egg weight and negative effects for egg yolk percentage in crossbreds. In conclusion, crossbreds have higher egg weight and other egg quality traits, while native ducks have better egg shell quality and higher yolk percentage compared to the other breeds.
