Librarians and archivists can gain insightinto the disciplinary culture of historians,and history doctoral students in particular,by examining the acknowledgmentsections of these students' doctoraldissertations. This paper is an exploratoryanalysis of the 219 history dissertationswritten at the University of Oklahomabetween 1930 and 2005.
