摘要

The protrusion of the rectum beyond the anus is thought to be uncommon in children from Western countries. This case presents a child who developed rectal prolapse (RP) with an unusual association. CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-month-old girl presented for evaluation of intermittent constipation alternating with loose stools, periumbilical abdominal pain, and the protrusion of a red, bulging mass from her rectum. The variable stool pattern and pain had been occurring for several months. Her stools were daily but ranged from a mushy or watery consistency to hard pellets. The protruding mass from the anus without bleeding was noted after she had passed soft-formed stools that were not associated with straining during defecation. The protrusion would reduce on its own.
