Intensive Cotton Farming Technologies in China

Cotton (Gossyphtm hirsutum L.) production in China has developed rapidly during the last sixty years. In 2014/15, the planted area and total output in the country were 4.35 million hectares and 6.53 million tons, respectively, and the unit yield was 93% higher than the world average. China currentlyaccounts for about 25% of world cotton production with just over a 12% share of the world area planted to cotton. Enhanced cotton production, particularly the high yield, is largely due to the country's adoption of a series of intensive farming technologies and cultural practices.
