An experiment was conducted in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, during the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 rabi seasons to study the heterosis of 60 F1s derived from the crosses by 15 lines and 4 testers of Indian mustard. Data were recorded for days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches, number of secondary branches, length of main raceme, number of siliquae on main raceme, siliquae length, number of seeds per siliquae, 1000-seed weight, oil content and seed yield per plant. Forty-five crosses displayed heterosis over better parent and 49 over standard variety, of which 43 were common crosses. A total of 51 crosses registered significant heterosis over standard variety for oil content, which was mainly due to low per se performance of standard variety for oil content..
