A study was conducted to determine the chromosome location of the leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici) and stem rust (P. graminis f.sp. tritici) resistance genes in a wheat-rye recombinant line, Selection 212. Monosomic analysis of F1 and F2progeny of crosses between the 21 monosomics of Chinese Spring and Selection 212 using the leaf rust pathotypes 77-1, 77-3, 77-4, and 77-5 and the stem rust pathotype 40A revealed that the resistance genes were located on chromosome 2B. The leaf rust resistance gene was hemizygous effective against pathotypes 77-1 and 77-3 and hemizygous ineffective against pathotypes 77-4 and 77-5, while the stem rust resistance gene was hemizygous ineffective against pathotype 40A.
