摘要

Thanks to recent breeding work by US nurseries on one of their native plants, there is a host of new Zauschneria cultivars available. Allan Robinson examines the appeal of this free-flowering sun-lover. Though not widely grown in Britain, Zauschneria are among the most spectacular plants native to the southwestern USA. Low-growing and extremely floriferous, with flowers usually bright orange or red but occasionally pink or white, they are ideal for rock gardens, walls or banks. Commonly known as Californian fuchsias, they are related to Fuchsia, both being members of the family Onagraceae, and will flower from July until the frosts.
