'Orchard of the Year' benefits from attention to detailand high quality SOilS

Simon Bray and his team are masters of attention to detail, as became apparent on a recent East Kent Fruit Society (EKFS) Farm Walk following hissuccess in the Society's Orchard Management Competition, in which his Gala apples won the Orchard of the Year and the Most Commercial Orchard Classes, but also the Hygiene Award and the Best Orchard over 1000 trees/acre. The farm also won Class A (Cox) and Class B (Gala), fighting off some stiff competition. Simon, like his father before him, has won numerous classes in this competition over the years, reflected in the large number of Society members in attendance at the Farm Walk,having benefited fromthe high quality brickearth soils and favoured location of the farm.
