The Marden Fruit Show Society celebrated its 80th anniversary when its annual farm walk was in Marden itself with a visit to H. E. Hall at Poultry Farm on 5 July, courtesy of Peter and Nicholas Hall.Welcoming the Society, Peter Hall explained that his family farm was founded by his grandfather Herbert Ernest Hall. Herbert Hall, born and bred in Sussex, moved to Marden in 1894 and initially rented the house and land at Poultry Farm. It was here thattheir son Herbert Ernest (HE) was born in 1896. Herbert senior bought his first farm,Little Mill (now the main fruit handling and storage facility), in 1925, but it was not until after his death that the land he initially settled on at Poultry Farm was bought in 1944.
