Steel fibre reinforced shotcrete (SFRS) method of is gaining popularity in underground mines. It is proving to be cost effective method for controlling side spalling as well as poor roof strata control. This paper highlights the cost comparison of the conventional methods of supports used in mines with that of SFRS. Shotcrete trails were conducted at Moondih mines BCCL and TISCO Digwadih in the close proximity of Dhanbad. The results presented indicate that the continuous use of SFRS proves to be cost effective in comparison with the conventional methods of support.
