Safe Mine Slope Stability Analysis for a Opencast Lignite Mine - A Case Study

摘要

A geotechnical study was conducted to design the safe slope of high wall benches at a proposed opencast lignite mine. During the study, thirteen boreholes were drilled and core samples were collected. On the basis of field and laboratory studies, Rock Mass Rating (RMR) of high wall benches was determined and accordingly rock classification was carried out from stability point of view. Thereafter, slope stability analysis was carried out using the 'GALENA' software. Factor of safety for high walls was determined at different slope angles. The proposed mining depth is below ground water table. Thus, due care for stability of high wall benches is required in the overburden.
