摘要

The in vivo and in vitro protective effects of C. aromaticus against lipid peroxidation was determined. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were measured in liver and kidney homogenates from male Sprague-Dawley rats and rat plasma. Liver weight was significantly higher in rats fed 0.05% dried ethanol and aqueous extracts of C. aromaticus and alpha -tocopherol. Lipid peroxidation was significantly lower in kidney, liver and plasma of rats fed 0.05% dried ethanol and aqueous extracts of C. aromaticus and alpha -tocopherol. In vitro lipid peroxidation experiment revealed that TBARS formation was significantly prevented by ethanol extract of C. aromaticus than aqueous extract of C. aromaticus and alpha -tocopherol. These results further provide evidence that TBARs formation was significantly influenced by diet fed with extracts of C. aromaticus. It is concluded that the antioxidant components of C. aromaticus strongly inhibit lipid peroxidation which could reduce the susceptibility of tissues to some form of oxidative stress in vivo as well as in vitro..
