STATUS REPORT ON RNTCP

Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) has initiated the process of identification and investigation of MDR-TB suspects at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Nagpur (Maharashtra) and the first cases of MDR-TB are likely to be registered for RNTCP Category IV treatment in early June 2007. While implementation of DOTS-Plus is being started to address the challenge of MDR-TB, the main emphasis of the programme is on prevention of MDR-TB through quality implementation of DOTS. It is important that all providers in the public and private sector adhere to DOTS and follow the International Standards of TB Care to achieve high cure rate and to prevent MDR-TB.
