CAPILLARY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC ANALYSES OF THE PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS IN COASTAL SEAWATER

This study of the petroleum hydrocarbons in coastal seawater, using dichloromethane extraction with O-terphenyl and n-C_(20) as internal standards, and gas chromatography with silica-capillary-column showed that the recovery of petroleum hydrocarbonsreaches 87.8% and that the lowest detection limit is 0.96 mu g. This method is reproducible, highly accurate, and applicable for determining the petroleum hydrocarbons in coastal seawater.
