Here in New Hampshire, the most Lyme-infested state in the nation,the uneasy fear of ticks can temper the joy and benefits of getting outdoors. As Lyme rates rise across the country—300,000 reported cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control, though the agency admits this number likely represents only 10 percent of actual cases—the disease has become a controversial and challenging one for the medical community. It can debilitate its victims, yet it's difficult to diagnose and treat. While it's unlikely that we'll completely eradicate the disease, herbs show promise in managing symptoms and giving chronic Lyme patients their lives back.
