Mutagenesis and DNA repair

摘要

Cellular genomes are stable but can be damaged by both the environment and endogenously generated agents, and also by errors during replication. The damage can lead to mutagenic or toxic effects, which are minimised by a variety of DNA repair mechanisms. This article describes types of DNA damage, the mutagens involved, DNA repair pathways and the diseases associated with defects in repair.
