Man-made non-coding RNAs: vector-based intronic miRNAs

MicroRNA (miRNA), a type of small non-coding RNA, is a single-stranded regulatory RNA that suppresses the expression of other genes on the basis of its complementarity to the target genes. We have developed a man-made miRNA cassette, which is insertedin the intron region of a protein-coding gene and transcribed by a tissue-specific RNA polymerase type II (Pol II) promoter. This man-made miRNA can be used for studying gene function, the development of gene therapies and viral vaccines, and the development of transgenic animals.
