Nested multiplex PCR for the determination of DNA from GM corn and soy beans

Six years after the introduction of genetically modified organisms (GMO), consumer concerns about the presence of such modified organisms in food remains an ongoing issue. There has been a continuous debate surrounding issues of how food products thatcontain GMO ingredients should be regulated and labelled. This debate has been further complicated by disagreements over how GMOs should be detected and the significance of the detected levels. In spite of these issues, the number of transgenic events has continued to grow. At the current time, 14 transgenic varieties of corn and soy beans have been deregulated by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
