Revision of the seashore genus Salinamexus (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae) with a description of Salinamexus koreanus sp. nov. from Korea

The seashore aleocharine genus Salinamexus Moore and Legner is revised. Three species are recognized, one of which is described as new (Salinamexus koreanus sp. nov.). The genus Salinamexus and the species 5. browni Moore and Legner and S. reticulatus(Moore and Legner) are redescribed. A key and illustrations of diagnostic features are provided. Members of Salinamexus Moore and Legner are confined to the seashores of the Pacific coast of the Holarctic region. The genus Salinamexus was described by Moore and Legner (1977) based on the new species S. browni from Sonora, Mexico. Later Moore (1978) described two additional new species, 5. densus from Sonora, Mexico, and S. giulianii from the Pacific coast of Washington, United States. However, S. giulianii and S. densus were transferred to the falagriine genus Bryobiota Casey by Ahn and Ashe (1995) and to the athetine genus Tarphiota Casey by Ahn (1999), respectively.
