"When you're piercing such a wide variety of materials and material thicknesses (1(1/4)-inch stainless to 22-gauge carbon), you encounter myriad pierce point speeds and cutting conditions. The adjustments we need to make on-the-fly are pretty incredible sometimes…"said company president Gary Geller. W.A. Whitney, Rockford, Ill., sought to respond to Lasertron's need for a thick-to-thin laser cutter. "We wanted to investigate ways to take a 6-kW cutter into the thinner material range, without creating the proverbial bull in a china shop," said Rick Kosmala, marketing manager for lasers.
