Nestled among the peaceful confines of Pine Crest Cemetery lie most of the earthly remains of one Robert O. Rubel, longtime master of Longview in Crichton, Alabama.Driving along Moffett Road today, at its highest point, you will find an ordinary strip mall where once a pair of Sandstone columns stood guard at the beginning of a 300 foot long driveway. A cattle guard with an 'electrified' inner rail sent an electronic signal to the house at the other end whenever a visitor entered the gates. No sign of the once magnificent nursery and beautiful surroundings is readily apparent. Even the magnificent view of the city and the Mobile River has been lost over time due to the growth of trees — and the constant changes that man has brought to this landscape, the view that once gave 'Longview' its name.
