Riparian planting has disastrous effects on landowners, ecosystems, and economics. Due to the amount of pesticide and fertilizer used in today's agricultural world, agricultural drainage is one of the primary sources of water pollution in the United States. Aside from the apparent ecological harm created by fertilizer and pesticide runoff into adjacent rivers and streams, riparian planting also has dramatic erosion implications.
