Remember Earth Day? If you are from a place like my hometown of Baton Rouge, La., where most people are employed by chemical-manufacturing facilities and petrochemical refineries, odds are you are pretty interested in the pursuit of clean air and familiar with the day dedicated to environmental awareness. Well, one lesson I've carried with me as a result of hanging out with those who wish to protect Mother Earth is the notion "think globally, act locally." What's the big deal? It's an idea that spans well beyond the realm of environmental protection. It can be applied to almost any issue of importance: economic development, education, public safety, and so forth.
