Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Primary Hyperparathyroidism, and Thyrotoxicosis Diagnosed Simultaneously in 2 Patients Comments on Prevalence and Mechanisms

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and thyroid diseases (TD) are common endocrine diseases. They often occur in the same patient concomitantly by chance. However, they occur together more often than expected from the incidences in the general population. Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is not as common, but it is seen more often in patients with T2D or TD than in the general population as a whole. There are indications that the 3 diseases might have a connection or a causal relation of some kind. We present 2 cases in whom the 3 diseases were diagnosed together.
