Managing Acromegaly With Somatostatin Analogs A Team Approach

Summarize the effects of somatostatin analogues on circulating levels of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-I in patients with acromegaly, and address the question of whether they influence pituitary tumor-cell proliferation.Compare the anti-acromegalic effects of octreotide, the first somatostatin analogue introduced in the US; lanreotide, currently available outside the US; and different formulations of these agents.Give examples of how treatment with a somatostatin analogue may affect co-morbid disorders often associated with acromegaly.
