In 2010 the BPS committee first met in January at The Natural History Museum in London. We also had our AGM at the NHM, where we were treated to illustrated fern tours of Australia and California by BPS members and enjoyed a stimulating talk by memberDr Sarah Whittingham on her specialist subject, the History of Pteridology. Tim Pyner was awarded the third J.W. Dyce award for his excellent and comprehensive review 'Growing ferns in a challenging climate'. The award (of 100) is open to anyone who writes an interesting and informative article for any of our publications. We were also pleased to present Alison Paul with an Outstanding Contribution Award for all the hard work she has put into the Society in her roles as Membership Secretary, Editor ofthe Bulletin and for organising many meetings at the NHM. We said good-bye to Robert Sykes, thanking him for his service, and welcomed Mary Gibby as our new President. Rob Cooke was re-elected as a Vice-President and Frank McGavigan was welcomed back onthe committee. Alec Greening became the Senior Editor of Pteridologist and Alison Evans took on the role of Education Officer. This new committee met in June at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and again in October at The Firs Botanical Grounds, University of Manchester.
