Primroses flowering on mossy banks are very much a traditional sign of spring in Britain. And not just in Britain, judging by the breeders engaged in meeting the demand for the cultivated varieties of the plant. On nurseries all over the British Isles there were also varieties bred in Denmark and of course in The Netherlands, and there was a welcome for visitors from Britain at breeders' trials on the Continent.
