Impressing the Garden Press

Earlier this year saw the seventh annual Garden Press Event attracting seventy exhibitors, the largest number yet, Held in London at the exhibition hall of the Royal Horticultural Society, it is a rarity among trade fairs. There is no selling -and noorder-taking. Its purpose is for organizations and providers of products and services of all kinds to put the word out to garden writers and broadcasters. The British Protected Ornamentals Association was there, for the second year running, to promote Home Grown. Ian Riggs and Simon Davenport were buoyantly optimistic for the campaign in the coming year. Two very big names indeed in the retail world had recently been signed up to promote the campaign at their outlets. The HTA was at the show for the first time. Among its reasons to be present was the promotion of the National Plant Show, so meshing in very nicely with the BPOA's Home Grown theme. On the Association stand leaflets from the HTA Bedding Group were prominent, giving advice on Impatiens Downy Mildew, and on red, white and blue flowers for the Diamond Jubilee.
