There is a star turn among European early summer flower trials that was missing from Holland and Germany in mid-June. Over 700 miles further south and six weeks earlier, the annual trials of PLA International take plaoe near Barcelona, on the SpanishCosta Brava reports John Sutton. It is not just tlie timing and location that is different. So is the spread of breeding talent - from the USA, Australia and Europe - whose varieties make up the PLA catalogue. This currently lists varieties in over forty genera altogether. These are from seventeen breeders varying from company teams to individual nurserymen.
