Chrysanthemums Direct

The Lawrence family in Cheshire have made money from chrysanthemums for almost all of their fifty years as growers. They are one of the largest producers of single-headed bloom chrysanthemums in the UK, writes John Sutton. Currently their annual production is over a million flowers, and they supply a major supermarket chain as well as most Northern and Midland wholesale markets. Next year they enter into a type of marketing new to them, with the launch of Chrysanthemums Direct. This company, formed jointly with D. & A. Wright of Wincham, also in Cheshire, will tap into retail young plant scene. Amateur gardeners continue to show enthusiasm for buying young plants by mail order, and this has been reinforced by the rapid rise of its modern version, on-line ordering from a website catalogue.
