Tomatoes can help to protect us against several life threatening diseases, according to a new book by pharmacist Ron Levin and science writer Gerard Cheshire. 'The Red Bodyguard - The Amazing Health Promoting Properties of the Tomato' is a peon of praise for the tomato, and makes the book compulsory reading for all tomato growers. However, it does state that tomato sauce and puree offer better protection than fresh fruits. Not such good news if you are a northern European glasshouse grower.
