Agrilus biguttatus (Fabricius) (Buprestidae) ventures into Wales

The Oak Jewel Agrilus biguttatus (Fabricius) has been steadily expanding its British range over the past 30 years and has now reached Wales. The characteristic exit holes were found in a narrow column of dead bark on the trunk of a live ancient oak pollard at Cwm Byddog Nature Reserve (S02144), Radnorshire (VC 43), 14 April 2014. The Reserve is owned and managed by the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust who acquired it specifically to conserve the concentration of ancient oak pollards that survives there.
