Three weevils, Curculio rubidus (Gyllenhal), Isochnus sequensi (Stierlin) (Curculionidae) and Trachyphloeus angustisetulus Hansen (Curculionidae), new to Nottinghamshire

The publication of new and up to date keys naturally leads me to delve into the cabinet to check on determinations made in the past using Joy (1932). This was the case with my newly acquired Handbook, True Weevils (Part III) (Morris, 2012). Having ensured that my determinations of both C. rubidus (Gyllenhal) and C. betulae (Stephens) were correct I was drawn to the note in Morris associated with Curculio rubidus "Not common, and distributed only in southern England, as far north as Hunts". I can now confirm that C. rubidus can be found several miles further north, as 1 have several specimens collected by beating silver birch Betula pendula at Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire (SK628391) on 26 August 2006 and again on 25 August 2010.
