The Status of Paromalus parallelepipedus (Herbst) (Histeridae) in Britain

Records of Paromalus parallelepipedus (Herbst) in Britain are few and far between, its sporadic occurrence presenting something of an enigma. Crotch (1863) first introduced the species as British when he included it in his Catalogue of British Coleoptera. The only Crotch specimens located by the author are without data, one of which is in Cambridge University Museum (purchased from him by Oliver E. Janson and present in the latter's collection) and the other in the Natural History Museum, London, now in the G.C. Champion collection and obtained by him from Crotch in or before 1873.
