The Devon population of Anoplodera sexguttata (Fabricius) (Cerambycidae)

Anoplodera sexguttata (Fabricius) is one of Britain's rarest longhorns with recent records from just five foci: the New Forest area (VC 11), Savemake Forest (VC 7), Monks Wood NNR (VC 31), North York Moors National Park (VC 62) and Exmoor National Park (VC 4) (Twinn & Harding, 1999). There are older records from Lincolnshire (VC 53), Monmouthshire (VC 35), Merioneth (VC 48) and Darenth Wood, Kent (VC 16). It currently has British Red Data Book Category 3 (Rare) status (Shirt, 1987; Hyman, 1992) although under current IUCN Guidelines for Regional Red Lists it would almost certainly achieve RDB Vulnerable. It is clearly part of Britain's old growth fauna and has been added to the species used in the calculation of the Index of Ecological Continuity (Alexander, 2004). The least well-known of its surviving five populations is the one on Exmoor and this note aims to review records from this area and bring it up-to-date.
