Onthophilus punctatus (Muller) (Histeridae) from pitfall traps inWiltshire

Two specimens of Onthophilus punctatus (Muller) were taken from pitfall traps on WylyeDown National Nature Reserve (SU002361). One was from traps set on 31 December 2006and emptied on 27 January 2007, and one from traps set on 22 February 2007 and emptied on29 March 2007. Hyman (1992) lists only West Kent, South Essex and West Suffolk since1970. (This species is not uncommon in Breckland, in mole's nests and pitfalls, where MartinCollier has 14 modern records for West Norfolk and two for East Norfolk — Ed.). Records aremainly from mole's nests. Mole activity was very evident on the Down during the period ofthe survey.
