Troll Pilot is a subsea separation and injection unit.Installed in May 2000,it was the first system to process wellfluids on the seabed for commercial purposes.Produced water is separated from the output of a number of subsea oil wells and is then pumped directly back into a porous strata of rock under the seafloor,while the remaining fluids flow to the Troll C floating production unit.This both reduces the quantity of water processed by Troll C (thus increasing oil throughput),and reduces the discharge of effluent water into the sea.
